Ratha Tep is a freelance journalist who writes about travel, food, art, design and culture for print and online publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, T Magazine, Budget Travel, The Daily Beast and Salon. In December 2014, she was chosen as a fill-in columnist for the Frugal Traveler column in the Travel section of The New York Times.
For seven years, she was an editor at Food & Wine magazine, where she wrote feature stories, edited front-of-book sections and online city guides, spearheaded research for the annual Best New Chef honors, and had the pleasure of interviewing top chefs around the country, talking bacon with Thomas Keller and high-tech gadgets with Grant Achatz. Prior to her time at F&W, Ratha wrote a weekly investment column for Forbes.com. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with degrees in English and in Economics.
In 2010, she chucked her life in New York City to move to Switzerland, where she lived with her husband nestled in between an urban sheep pasture and Lake Zurich. They are currently settled in Dublin with their two children.
